We all have the basic knowledge about rain but let’s learn a bit more deeper! Rain is one of the six main types of precipitation.
As we know, precipitation is the condensation of the water vapours evaporated from ground which form clouds and due to high atmospheric pressure falls back on the ground in the shape of water droplets or snow.

Condensation of water is a part of the water cycle which occurs naturally. There are six types of precipitation in which we generally know about only two or three of them.
Rain is when Coalescence or large water droplets, due to heavy air turbulence, overcomes the air resistance and fall.
Ice pellet is when a snowflake melts and falls into a sub-freezing layer which forms translucent balls of ice and precipitates.
Hail stone is when too cold water droplets freeze on contact with dust or dirt and fall after circulating within the storm cloud.
Snow flake is when ice crystals grow and fall through the atmosphere due to their mass.
Diamond dust is when ice crystals form hexagon shape at very low temperature and air with slightly higher moisture.
Occult deposition is when highly saturated air with water vapour moves over land or trees and falls.
In all these types of precipitation, snow or water droplets fall on ground and we feel the moisture or wetness over the land.
Have you experienced rain without any water fall? Our surroundings are not dampened by the rain!
There is a type of rain which is never visible to us. Yes, there are times when water droplets are very small and because of heavy disturbance at the higher atmosphere and air storms, these little water droplets condense and fall due to the gravitational force but never reach the ground.

The water droplets get evaporated in between the atmosphere and ground. Due to hot weather and dryness in surrounding air. This is common in desert regions where air has low moisture and evaporation happens at a high rate. The phenomenon is termed as Phantom Rain.
Phantom which means that something that you have heard of! But never seen or exist. This type of precipitation is not visible most of the time, hence is named as ‘Phantom Rain’.
